How many of you know Mary Poppins and the bag she totes around? You know, the one that holds everything that anyone could ever possibly need? Yeah, she’s my idol. I may not claim to be Practically Perfect in Every Way, but organized and prepared; absolutely! Sure, I have the extra toothbrushes and toothpaste to save the couple from an awkwardly unpleasant first kiss as a married couple. Or deodorant for that bridesmaid who misplaced hers. But what if the groomsman realizes upon lining up for the ceremony that he left the rings back at the hotel? Or when the rain shower thankfully clears up just in time for the outdoor ceremony, but brings along a swarm of uninvited guests. Perhaps upon slipping into the wedding attire, the sound of thread ripping at the seam of the zipper hushes all sound in the room. It all will be okay! Spare mock wedding bands for a last minute, temporary replacement, bug spray, and a sewing kit to reinforce that zipper will set everything straight. (By the way, I have witnessed these actual events and crisis was averted.) Of course I do everything in my power to plan and prepare for a smooth wedding day, but some things are beyond anyone’s control. My hope is that I can bring an unnecessary crisis down to tiny hiccup status so that you can stay relaxed on your wedding day and hopefully look back and laugh about it later.
